The Department of Physical Education developed from the Physical Education Section of Tongren Teachers' College in 1984. After the combination of Tongren Teachers' College and Tongren Education College in 1993, the Section of Physical Education was changed the name to the Department of Physical Education in Tongren Normal College. From 2007, Department of Physical Education began to enroll the undergraduate. Now the student enrollment includes both undergraduate and college student which in total of 380, including 330 undergraduates.

There are 44 teachers now in Department of Physical Education, including 10 professors or associate professors, 27 lecturers and 7 teaching assistants, among them 10 have achieved master's degrees, and one is pursuing his doctor degree. Our department has five sections锛
