The Department of Education Science grew out of Education Science Laboratory which was founded in September, 1992 during Tongren Teachers College. The Department has enrolled undergraduates since 2004 when the Department was renamed as Department of Education.

Currently, the Department has six undergraduate majors: Elementary Education, Special Education, Preschool Education, Bachelor's Degree in Education Technology, Psychological Consultation and Primary Education.

There are six teaching and research offices and two centers: Teaching and Research Office for Education, Teaching and Research Office for Psychology, Teaching and Research Office for Elementary Education (Arts), Teaching and Research Office for Elementary Education (Science), Teaching and Research Office for Primary education and Teaching and Research Office for Education Technology, Center for Family Education Research and Guidance and Center for Fundamental Education Research.

At present, the department has 85 teachers consisting of full-time and part-time, among whom are 1 professor, 32 associate professors, 36 lecturers, 12 teaching assistants, 5 new teachers.
