Mathematics and Information Engineering Department grew out of Mathematics Department which approved by the State Council in 1978, during the period of Tongren Normal School. In 2006, it renamed Mathematics and Computer Science Department. It has been named Mathematics and Information Engineering Department since 2013. In the last 30 years, with great efforts, it has developed into two disciplines which are Natural Science and Engineering with six undergraduate majors. It is one of the excellent departments that are administrated regularly. High-quality talents have been cultivated here, which can be seen from its different kinds of outstanding competition results and its high employment rate.

At present, the department has six undergraduate majors, mathematics and applied mathematics, computer science and technology, statistics, information engineering, software engineering, automation, with a total enrollment of 871. It has 53 teachers, including 5 professors and 13 associate professors. 32 of them have achieved Master鈥檚 and Doctor鈥檚 degree, 11 of them are studying for their Master鈥檚 degree. There are 7 teaching and research sections, which are basic mathematics, applied mathematics, basic computer, applied computer, statistics, information engineering and automation.

In compliance with the department鈥檚 spirit of preciseness, diligence, truth and creation, it focuses on the goal of cultivating practical talents in terms of different forms: strictly controlling the teaching quality, strengthening administration, improving students鈥
