Physical and Applied Engineering Department, originating from the Physical Science of Tongren Teacher鈥檚 College in 1978, which was developed into the Physical Department in 1993 when Tongren Teacher鈥檚 College was combined with Tongren Educational College and was renamed Physical and Electronic Science Department in 2006. Now it has five undergraduate majors which are Physics, Applied Physics, Material Physics, Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

In the Department, 26% of the full-time staff has senior professional titles and 70% have Master鈥檚 Degree. Among them, there are 5 teachers with dual-qualification, 1 with enterprise industry background , 1 with engineering background, 4 college-level academic leaders, 4 academic backbone teachers, 2 municipal-level experts, and 1 provincial-level excellent teachers.

In the Department, there are several research centers which include the Solid Material and Component Research Institution, the Condensed Matter Physics and Engineering Research Center, the Computational Physics Laboratory, and the Functional Material Laboratory. The Teaching Lab covers these fields such as general physics, modern physics, electrical and electronic technology, sensor technology, material processing, and mapping.
