Department of Chinese Language and Literature锛宱riginally known as Chinese section of Tongren Normal School in 1978. With approval of the former State Education Commission in 1993, Tongren Normal School was renamed as Tongren Normal College, and Chinese section accordingly developed into Chinese Department. In September 2001, the department initiated jointly with Guizhou Normal University an undergraduate education program in Chinese Language and Literature. Since being promoted to Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Tongren University in 2006, it has had two undergraduate programs, Chinese Language and Literature and Secretary锛宎s well as a foundation program for ethnic minorities. Currently, the department has 1038 students, including 745 undergraduates which account for 72% of the total. In addition, it has over 300 correspondence adult students as well.
The department now has 48 full-time teachers, among whom 45.8% 锛坅round 22锛
